In continuation of the Glitch Vocal trick in Logic using Ultrabeat, lets take it a step further to create an even more unique sounding part.  The key here is to flip the sequencer to “Voice” mode to “Step” mode. Once engaged the drum machine will go dim and all of the parameters will be highlighted. (See Below)

Now endless possibilities open up to create completely new parts & even sounds.  Touch any parameter with your pointer slightly and you should see movement in the sequencer section of Ultrabeat.  That parameter is now locked in to be modulated and in time with your groove.  Randomnly add different hits and different levels until you create something you like.  We usually like to start tweaking the pitch slider shown below.  Gentle tweaks here usually work best.

Going even further lets select and engage the filter on Ultrabeat, and repeat the same steps as above. Although now we can begin to make more drastic movements on the sequencer to add emphasis on movement in the sound to prevent it from becoming a boring static part.

From here you can continue on your own to modulating different parameters that sound pleasing to you and create interesting parts, textures, & sounds.  Playing with release and resonance, snappy attack adjustments glide steps will really take your music to another level giving you a much more polished sound.  As a final tip, create long 32 step parts and short ones, plus duplicate the tracks and have slight variations between them to add even more ear candy interest thoughout your song with the greatest of ease.  Remember producing music should be fun not painful!
